Calling all Silver Cyclists
"It was exhilarating! Why? Because I haven’t been on my bike since May last year – I fell and broke my hip. I've got 3 screws in there now so today was about trying out bikes to help me feel more confident – I was sceptical before! I definitely need this...I feel I can get out there again now!" - Mavis, age 82
You too can get the 'Mavis' experience!
Have you stopped cycling because of age or health? Come get active in a safe fun environment!
Silver Cyclists sessions for the over 50's
What does it cost? £5 per session. Carers go free.
How do I pay? Pay on the day with your instructor.
What do I need to bring? Helmets are provided, so you just need to dress appropriately for the weather! There's a handy cafe in the visitor centre for drinks and snacks.
What do I need to do? Book in advance by calling Ruth Brannan on 07521 905 448 or email her at email@example.com and mention that you wish to book a Silver Cyclists Session. When you arrive for your session you will need to fill in a short form before you can get on a bike.
Does my carer need to stay? If you regularly need support then they should stay with you because they know you best. Support/carers ride for free and it's a great way to have fun together!
What if I'm not very confident? If you haven't cycled in a long time, or never cycled before, these bikes are a great way to build up your confidence! Things are more stable with three or four wheels so you can just focus on the enjoyment of the wind in your hair.
What if there isn't a bike for me? We still recommend coming down and meeting our instructors, because we're trying to expand our bike fleet all the time. If you come down and tell us what you're looking for, we can add it to our wish list and make sure we're sourcing bikes that meet customer requirements.
Please note that there can be busy times at group sessions. Numbers of bikes are limited and you may need to wait to try your chosen bike.
Accessibility Our bikes are made with disabled people in mind - so we should have a solution that meets your needs. Our Wheels for All trained instructors have all the info on how to adapt different bikes for different abilities.
The park has disabled parking bays with level access to the park itself. There is level access to the cafe counter and ground floor seating, and a ramp up to the viewing platform at the back of the visitor centre. Accessible toilets are located on the ground floor of the visitor centre. There is also a Changing Places toilet in the car park.
