Pauline lives in South Cambridgeshire with her husband Peter.
She is 75 & has a back problem requiring a wheelchair for the last 10 years and goes out daily with someone in attendance. For the last couple of years professional carers have called daily and one of these is Jess who works on the Bike Too project weekly. It was Jess who persuaded Pauline to try the wheelchair bike (and she is seen on the photo). She also has Alzheimer's which is the reason for the daily Carers.
Pauline found the experience exhilarating & looks forward going out again soon.
Peter and Pauline regularly visit Milton Park & have done since it opened as they feel it is safe to get around for the disabled.
Peter says that Pauline still smiles when she is shown the photo of herself on the bike, as a reminder of the day .
The last time Pauline was on a bike was over 50 years ago, as she needed to cycle from home to school and later to work. Thereafter she always travelled by bus or car.
What a great example of the power of cycling to bring smiles to faces and the importance of bikes like this wheelchair one!
*Note - since writing this post Pauline has sadly passed away. We send all of our warm thoughts and hugs to her family, friends, and Jess. We are so proud of what Pauline achieved on the bike and will remember her fondly. This post was published with the permission of her husband and we hope that it will bring happy memories of an incredible woman.
