The life of a Volunteer Bike Instructor - Thanks Mags!
What's the best thing about being a cycle instructor?
Great to see folks trying out the bikes, able to help them learn a new skill. On several of the days we have had people come to try the bikes out who have either lost their confidence or not ridden for a while or young children who are just learning to ride.
What's your favourite moment so far?
Some favourite moments have been seeing Angela (from the project team) grow in confidence at speaking to and working with new people, she is truly inspirational and has gone from being quite shy to a very confident young lady who now is able to speak on the radio among many places!
Second amazing wobbly moment was the day of the Paralympics torch procession seeing Aaron holding the torch on a bike. This day was such a great advert for how far the bike project has come along - from Aaron’s idea to ride a bike with friends to seeing him and Ryan leading off the procession with his friends following behind.Oh and not forgetting the day Kate and William came to town!
What's the thing you've learned that you never thought you'd have to learn?
Never knew I had quite so many warm and WATERPROOF clothes!!!!! Please let it be sunny/dry/less muddy this year! Even tho it has rained on many occasions it really has not stopped the fun, the dad's group summed up the day when the young chap came back from his ride splattered from head to foot in mud.
What are you looking forward to most this year?
Meeting new cyclists and the cycling event in June!
Bye for now
