We were proud and delighted to receive the sum of £260 in memory of local cyclist Vic Claydon recently. The money was collected at his funeral for You Can Bike Too, and his daughter Vicki sent us this wonderful tribute to her father. Our thanks to the family and friends of Vic Claydon, what a lovely gesture and one that will mean other people get the pleasure of cycling at Milton Country Park ... thank you.
"My father, Vic Claydon first joined the Cambridge Cycle Touring Club after he returned from war service in India. It was through the CTC that he met and then married my mother. In their youth they had a tandem and cycled all over the country. As babies we went in a little side car attached to my father’s bike and then later on a child seat attached to the cross bar.
Dad was a member of the CTC until his death, as was his elder brother Will, and both continued cycling well into their eighties.
In later years my parents enjoyed walking around the lake at Milton Country Park with their dog.
My sister, Judy and I have both worked with disabled children and young people, and so we were very interested to hear about the "You can bike too" project."
