We have decided to start something brand new here on our blog. Every time someone comes and sees one of our bikes they are amazed and amused. You can just see their playful side creeping up to the surface! And each of our bikes is unique in its very own way and are best for different types of people. So, we think each of them deserves its own story to be told. And here is featured bike number one!
Today's feature bike - The Tom Cat Trike
What makes this bike unique?
Who is it best for?
Sized for a small adult or older child, this bike is especially good for those with visual impairments, who are new to cycling, or have difficulties with balance.
Who funded the bike?
This bike was donated by the John Stewart Memorial Fund which is in memory of John Stewart, a keen cyclist who sadly lost his life to prostate cancer. John used to say, "there is a sport for everyone, you just have to find it". And he sure was right! Thank you so much to his family who donated this well used bike.
What do the volunteers and riders say about it?
"It's good for young adults especially. A young person can get on it and have a go with support from a parent/carer. The young person riding won't be alone and they feel more confident and in control. It's good because confidence flows as the young person can focus and concentrate on learning new skills on it, such as holding the hand bars. As they gain more confidence then you can even take the back handle off. It's not just learning to cycle, it's enjoyable and gives responsibility. It also reassures the parent that it is safe and invites them into the process of learning something new and taking risks. " Peter, volunteer.
